Smart Card Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2022
The average smart card import price stood at $0.8 per unit in 2022, rising by 36% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt slump. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1.7 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1.7 per unit), while the price for Finland ($0.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average smart card export price stood at $1.7 per unit in 2022, which is down by -38% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 28%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4.2 per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($6.5 per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+12.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Smart Card Imports in Belgium
In 2022, smart card imports into Belgium declined remarkably to 52M units, shrinking by -26.9% on the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last three-year period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $42M, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, smart card exports contracted sharply to $11M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $18M in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
