In July 2023, the average silicates import price amounted to $539 per ton, growing by 2.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 52% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $773 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,168 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($306 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+16.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Silicates Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average silicates export price amounted to $591 per ton, jumping by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($933 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($104 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Silicates Imports in Turkey

In 2022, approx. 57K tons of silicates, commercial alkali metal silicates were imported into Turkey; growing by 28% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, silicates imports surged to $33M in 2022. Overall, imports saw significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Silicates Exports in Turkey

For the fourth consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in overseas shipments of silicates, commercial alkali metal silicates, which increased by 0.9% to 3.5K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 6.3%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, silicates exports soared to $2.1M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
