Sheep; Live Price in Romania (FOB) - 2023

The average sheep; live export price stood at $126 per unit in August 2023, which is down by -4% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 14% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $140 per unit in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Croatia ($131 per unit) and Italy ($131 per unit), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($114 per unit) and Albania ($122 per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sheep; live import price stood at $106 per unit in July 2023, dropping by -38.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 120% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $214 per unit. From May 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($106 per unit), while the price for Hungary ($103 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of sheep; live exported from Romania contracted to 2.3M units, which is down by -11.1% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.5% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 3M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
