In 2022, the average sheep; live export price amounted to $94 per unit, shrinking by -23.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $124 per unit in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Bahrain ($94 per unit) and Yemen ($94 per unit), while the average price for exports to Oman ($94 per unit) and Djibouti ($94 per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Somalia (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas shipments of sheep; live decreased by -2.2% to 82K units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 108K units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sheep; live exports shrank significantly to $7.8M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 40%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $11M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
