In 2022, the average selenium import price amounted to $29,028 per ton, surging by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a deep slump. The import price peaked at $131,860 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($28,588 per ton), while the price for Russia ($23,909 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average selenium export price amounted to $24,290 per ton, which is down by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a sharp downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 120%. The export price peaked at $251,737 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.

From 2013 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Germany amounted to -26.4% per year.

Selenium Imports in Ukraine

In 2022, approx. 6.3 tons of selenia were imported into Ukraine; declining by -43.7% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 160%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 11 tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, selenium imports contracted notably to $183K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 135% against the previous year.

Selenium Exports in Ukraine

In 2022, exports of selenia from Ukraine expanded remarkably to 116 kg, growing by 15% compared with 2021 figures. In general, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2020 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +26.1% over the last two years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +58.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, selenium exports rose modestly to $2.8K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible downturn.
