The average selenium export price stood at $12,191 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -14.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $106,211 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($23,981 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($9,515 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+40.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average selenium import price stood at $29,730 per ton in 2021, increasing by 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep setback. The import price peaked at $85,780 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($47,986 per ton), while the price for Germany amounted to $19,607 per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Selenium Exports in Russia

Selenium exports from Russia rose to 259 tons in 2022, surging by 4.5% compared with 2021. In general, exports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 121%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 259 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, selenium exports dropped to $3.2M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.8% against 2019 indices. In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of selenia, when their volume decreased by -79.6% to 1.2 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 707%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 6 tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, selenium imports reduced markedly to $36K in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 359%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $114K, and then declined notably in the following year.
