The average selenium import price stood at $10,363 per ton in 2022, falling by -26.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 3.5%. The import price peaked at $72,498 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($43,994 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($4,745 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (-1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Selenium Imports in Oman
In 2022, overseas purchases of selenia decreased by -8.2% to 2.5 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 172%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.7 tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, selenium imports declined significantly to $26K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 180%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $38K, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
