Salt Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average salt import price amounted to $94 per ton, growing by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 42%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $107 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($162 per ton), while the price for Poland ($87 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Salt Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average salt export price amounted to $436 per ton, reducing by -21.7% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a modest expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, salt export price decreased by -25.4% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 46% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $584 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,141 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($140 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Salt Imports in the Czech Republic

In 2022, the amount of salt and pure sodium chloride imported into the Czech Republic rose significantly to 790K tons, surging by 13% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +97.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, salt imports rose notably to $75M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Salt Exports in the Czech Republic

In 2022, approx. 33K tons of salt and pure sodium chloride were exported from the Czech Republic; picking up by 32% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment.

In value terms, salt exports surged to $14M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
