The average sack and bag export price stood at $3,590 per ton in July 2023, surging by 2.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 4.1% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $3,772 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,815 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($1,980 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sack and Bag Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average sack and bag import price amounted to $2,872 per ton, with an increase of 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($5,771 per ton), while the price for Turkmenistan ($1,536 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sack and Bag Exports in Turkey

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of sacks and bags decreased by -1.9% to 103K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12%.

In value terms, sack and bag exports fell modestly to $392M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $404M, and then contracted in the following year.

Sack and Bag Imports in Turkey

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.4K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, sack and bag imports fell to $6.4M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
