Rice Bran Price in South Korea (CIF) - 2022

In December 2022, the average rice bran import price amounted to $306 per ton, surging by 7.3% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2021 to December 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 40% month-to-month. The import price peaked in December 2022.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($338 per ton), while the price for Australia amounted to $234 per ton.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+2.0%).

Rice Bran Price in South Korea (FOB) - 2022

The average rice bran export price stood at $1,187 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,609 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($82 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+21.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Rice Bran Imports in South Korea

In 2022, supplies from abroad of rice bran decreased by -23% to 7.6K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +13.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 9.8K tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, rice bran imports reduced to $1.8M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.1M, and then reduced in the following year.

Rice Bran Exports in South Korea

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of rice bran increased by 2.5% to 782 kg in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline.

In value terms, rice bran exports rose to $928 in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment.
