Rendered Pig Fat Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average rendered pig fat export price stood at $1,181 per ton in July 2023, which is down by -5.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 2.8% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,671 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,959 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($846 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Rendered Pig Fat Price in Italy (CIF) - 2022
The average rendered pig fat import price stood at $1,374 per ton in 2022, jumping by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a resilient increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,072 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($752 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+18.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rendered Pig Fat Exports in Italy
In 2022, overseas shipments of lard and other pig fat (rendered) decreased by -4.9% to 39K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 41K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, rendered pig fat exports soared to $66M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 110%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
