Raw Silk Price in Norway (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average raw silk import price amounted to $130,377 per ton, surging by 62% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 249%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $143,176 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($186,857 per ton), while the price for Sweden ($49,333 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+18.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Raw Silk Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022

The average raw silk export price stood at $70,250 per ton in 2022, rising by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 91% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $81,583 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Sweden.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Sweden amounted to +42.7% per year.

Raw Silk Imports in Norway

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of raw silk, when their volume decreased by -15.3% to 122 kg. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 180%.

In value terms, raw silk imports soared to $16K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 163%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, raw silk exports shrank dramatically to $281 in 2022. In general, exports showed a sharp contraction. The smallest decline of -46.9% was in 2021.
