Raw Silk Price in France (CIF) - 2023

The average raw silk import price stood at $101K per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 42% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($103K per ton), while the price for Vietnam amounted to $93,303 per ton.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Raw Silk Price in France (FOB) - 2022

The average raw silk export price stood at $69,533 per ton in 2022, rising by 77% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded prominent growth. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $134,667 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($71,673 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland amounted to $910 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+5.7%).

Raw Silk Imports in France

In 2022, imports of raw silk into France surged to 173 tons, increasing by 56% against the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, raw silk imports surged to $14M in 2022.
