Rare Earth Metal Price in China (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average rare earth metal export price amounted to $19,626 per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $65,676 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($21,828 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($3,634 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (-1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Rare Earth Metal Price in China (CIF) - 2022

The average rare earth metal import price stood at $190,625 per ton in 2022, jumping by 79% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 1,073%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $371,888 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,298,119 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($99,834 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+55.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Rare Earth Metal Exports in China

Rare earth metal exports from China skyrocketed to 20K tons in 2022, with an increase of 112% on the previous year. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, rare earth metal exports surged to $393M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Rare Earth Metal Imports in China

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of rare earth metals decreased by -43% to 113 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 429%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 199 tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, rare earth metal imports stood at $22M in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 333%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
