Quartzite Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023

The average quartzite export price stood at $283 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 3.1% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a mild expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, quartzite export price decreased by -19.5% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 70% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $353 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +1.5% per month.

In June 2023, the average quartzite import price amounted to $737 per ton, declining by -38.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 194% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,197 per ton in May 2023, and then dropped dramatically in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($2,951 per ton), while the price for the United States ($375 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+27.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 51K tons of quartzite were exported from Canada; growing by 14% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year.

In value terms, quartzite exports skyrocketed to $14M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
