Propylene Oxide Price in China (CIF) - 2022
The average propylene oxide import price stood at $1,399 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -32.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 67% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,064 per ton, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Saudi Arabia ($1,513 per ton) and Japan ($1,357 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,106 per ton) and South Korea ($1,308 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Propylene Oxide Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average propylene oxide export price amounted to $1,425 per ton, surging by 1.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 9.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,299 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($1,959 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($1,430 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($1,350 per ton) and India ($1,356 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Propylene Oxide Imports in China
For the third consecutive year, China recorded decline in overseas purchases of methyloxirane (propylene oxide), which decreased by -29.9% to 304K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep slump. The smallest decline of -0.7% was in 2020.
In value terms, propylene oxide imports declined markedly to $426M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $896M, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
