Tomato Production in the United States - 2022

In 2022, approx. 10M tons of tomatoes were produced in the United States; reducing by -2.2% on the previous year. In general, production showed a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 13%. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 13M tons. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure. Tomato output in the United States indicated a mild contraction, which was largely conditioned by a slight slump of the harvested area and mild growth in yield figures.

In value terms, tomato production reached $18B in 2022. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. Tomato production peaked at $19B in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Tomato Harvested Area in the United States - 2022

In 2022, approx. 107K ha of tomatoes were harvested in the United States; waning by -1.9% on the year before. In general, the harvested area recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 3.7%. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of 130K ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the tomato harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Tomato Yield in the United States - 2022

The average yield of tomatoes in the United States declined modestly to 96 tons per ha in 2022, remaining stable against 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the yield increased by 9.2% against the previous year. The tomato yield peaked at 99 tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.
