Groundnuts Production in the United States - 2022

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in production of ground-nut (in-shell), when its volume decreased by -1.8% to 2.8M tons. Overall, production recorded a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 13% against the previous year. Groundnuts production peaked at 3.2M tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure. Groundnuts output in the United States indicated a perceptible downturn, which was largely conditioned by a noticeable downturn of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.

In value terms, groundnuts production declined modestly to $2.3B in 2022. Over the period under review, production saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 6.7%. Groundnuts production peaked at $3.4B in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Groundnuts Harvested Area in the United States - 2022

In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of ground-nut (in-shell) production in the United States stood at 639K ha, growing by 2.3% compared with 2021. Overall, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the harvested area increased by 16% against the previous year. The groundnuts harvested area peaked at 719K ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Groundnuts Yield in the United States - 2022

In 2022, the average groundnuts yield in the United States contracted to 4.5 tons per ha, dropping by -4% compared with the year before. In general, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 8.5%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 4.6 tons per ha, and then contracted in the following year.

The total volume of exports reached $243M or 312K tons. China remains the key destination for groundnut supplies from the U.S., accounting for 85% of the total figure.
