Groundnuts production in Senegal expanded modestly to 1.7M tons in 2022, picking up by 3.6% against the previous year. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 1.8M tons. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure. Groundnuts output in Senegal indicated a measured expansion, which was largely conditioned by a moderate expansion of the harvested area and a temperate increase in yield figures.
In value terms, groundnuts production rose slightly to $807M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $1.1B in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the harvested area of ground-nut (in-shell) in Senegal totaled 1.2M ha, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the harvested area increased by 10%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to groundnuts production reached the maximum at 1.3M ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

The average yield of ground-nut (in-shell) in Senegal rose to 1.4 tons per ha in 2022, picking up by 3.1% on the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the yield increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the average groundnuts yield reached the maximum level at 1.5 tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure.
