Price for Zinc; Waste and Scrap in Finland (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average zinc; waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,837 per ton, growing by 4.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 83% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,862 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($2,213 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,574 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, the average zinc; waste and scrap import price amounted to $2,068 per ton, rising by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, zinc; waste and scrap import price increased by +65.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 21%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($3,572 per ton), while the price for Norway ($969 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Zinc; Waste and Scrap in Finland

In 2022, the amount of zinc; waste and scraps exported from Finland skyrocketed to 773 tons, jumping by 24% against the year before. In general, exports saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 113%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, zinc; waste and scrap exports soared to $38M in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
