The average import price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $1,913 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -38.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 137% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $4,128 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,182 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,035 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils amounted to $4,872 per ton, surging by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, faced a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 65%. The export price peaked at $16,136 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were the Czech Republic ($5,180 per ton) and Kosovo ($4,952 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($3,827 per ton) and Poland ($4,060 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Zinc; Plates, Sheets, Strip and Foil in Slovakia
In 2022, overseas purchases of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils decreased by -30.1% to 2.8K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4K tons, and then fell notably in the following year.
In value terms, imports of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils fell rapidly to $11M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 198% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $18M, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils increased by 45% to 111 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent.
In value terms, exports of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils surged to $542K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
