The average import price for zinc; dust, powders and flakeses stood at $3,772 per ton in 2021, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,303 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($6,562 per ton), while the price for India ($3,533 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 453% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $20,695 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($23,600 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($4,430 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, zinc; dust, powders and flakes imports soared to $4.9M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
