The average import price for zinc; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $10,062 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.9% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for zinc; bars, rods, profiles and wires increased by +59.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 55%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($12,139 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($2,418 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 271%. The export price peaked at $6,186 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Maldives.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Maldives amounted to +12.2% per year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 79%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
