The average import price for zinc; bars, rods, profiles and wires stood at $4,582 per ton in 2022, growing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,495 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($8,031 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($1,092 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Imports of Zinc; Bars, Rods, Profiles and Wire in Bangladesh
In 2022, supplies from abroad of zinc; bars, rods, profiles and wires decreased by -32.1% to 254 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 527 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of zinc; bars, rods, profiles and wires dropped markedly to $1.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 33%.
