Price for Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Italy (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average yoghurt and fermented milk import price amounted to $2,160 per ton, dropping by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 8% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,211 per ton in May 2023, and then dropped slightly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Greece ($3,164 per ton), while the price for Croatia ($1,591 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Italy (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average yoghurt and fermented milk export price amounted to $3,599 per ton, reducing by -4.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,358 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($6,479 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($1,750 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Italy

Yoghurt and fermented milk imports into Italy was estimated at 278K tons in 2022, growing by 3.3% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 5.3%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, yoghurt and fermented milk imports rose rapidly to $511M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 10%.

In value terms, yoghurt and fermented milk exports shrank to $27M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $31M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
