In June 2023, the average yarn; of flax, single import price amounted to $12,718 per ton, increasing by 7.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 55% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $16,582 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($24,718 per ton), while the price for Spain ($9,333 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average yarn; of flax, single export price amounted to $22,353 per ton, rising by 30% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 201%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $49,482 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($34,532 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($10,467 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Yarn; of Flax, Single in the UK
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of yarn; of flax, singles, when their volume increased by 250% to 510 tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep slump.
In value terms, yarn; of flax, single imports surged to $6.4M in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
