In July 2023, the average yarn; of flax, single import price amounted to $16,161 per ton, rising by 16% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The import price peaked at $16,281 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($21,299 per ton), while the price for Spain ($9,910 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average yarn; of flax, single export price amounted to $17,386 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 9.1% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $17,771 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Spain ($17,520 per ton) and Bulgaria ($16,855 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($14,400 per ton) and France ($16,230 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Yarn; of Flax, Single in Portugal

In 2022, the amount of yarn; of flax, singles imported into Portugal declined modestly to 4.8K tons, almost unchanged from the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.8K tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, yarn; of flax, single imports soared to $58M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +84.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, yarn; of flax, single exports skyrocketed to $4.5M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
