Price for Yarn; of Flax, Single in Italy (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average yarn; of flax, single import price amounted to $16,829 per ton, waning by -8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $18,290 per ton in June 2023, and then fell in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($24,444 per ton), while the price for France ($4,564 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average yarn; of flax, single export price stood at $19,361 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -3.4% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 18% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $20,044 per ton in June 2023, and then dropped slightly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($25,277 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($14,334 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Yarn; of Flax, Single in Italy

In 2022, the amount of yarn; of flax, singles imported into Italy surged to 11K tons, picking up by 32% on 2021. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +86.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, yarn; of flax, single imports skyrocketed to $149M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a remarkable increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
