Price for Wood; Posts and Beams in China (FOB) - 2021
The average wood; posts and beams export price stood at $1,312 per ton in December 2021, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, export price indicated mild growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, wood; posts and beams export price increased by +69.3% against May 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2021 when the average export price increased by 23% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,330 per ton in January 2021; afterwards, it flattened through to December 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Australia ($2,684 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average wood; posts and beams import price amounted to $1,138 per ton, surging by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,998 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($13,169 per ton), while the price for Japan ($462 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+109.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Wood; Posts and Beams in China
In 2022, overseas shipments of wood; posts and beamses decreased by -29.9% to 38K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 146% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 54K tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, wood; posts and beams exports fell notably to $41M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 147% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $59M, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of wood; posts and beamses increased by 12% to 2.1K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous slump.
In value terms, wood; posts and beams imports soared to $2.4M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a sharp contraction.
