In December 2023, the average export price for white sugar (containing >= 99,5% sucrose) and chemically pure sucrose amounted to $720 per ton, increasing by 3% against the previous month. Over the last eleven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 5.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in December 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Singapore ($753 per ton) and Indonesia ($738 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($658 per ton) and the Philippines ($667 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for white sugar (containing >= 99,5% sucrose) and chemically pure sucrose stood at $785 per ton in December 2023, rising by 2.5% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2023 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous month. The import price peaked in December 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were India ($784 per ton) and Thailand ($784 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($719 per ton) and South Korea ($756 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
