Price for Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $651 per ton in December 2022, leveling off at the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 an increase of 18% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $671 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Philippines ($711 per ton) and Bangladesh ($711 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($548 per ton) and the Netherlands ($553 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $630 per ton in 2022, growing by 21% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses increased by +80.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Tanzania ($707 per ton) and Japan ($634 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($609 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($626 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses, when their volume decreased by -15.7% to 319K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year.

In value terms, imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses contracted slightly to $200M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $206M, and then declined in the following year.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses, when their volume increased by 33% to 35K tons. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep contraction.

In value terms, exports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses surged to $22M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
