Price for Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Uganda (FOB) - 2022

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $587 per ton in 2022, waning by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $630 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($599 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($515 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $285 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 54% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $355 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($504 per ton), while the price for Burundi ($47 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Uganda

In 2022, approx. 4.7K tons of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses were exported from Uganda; shrinking by -40.9% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 449% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 7.9K tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses declined dramatically to $2.7M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 527% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $4.7M, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, overseas purchases of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses decreased by -25.8% to 4.5K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 118%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses totaled $1.3M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 167%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.4M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
