The average import price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds stood at $81.6 per ton in November 2023, surging by 5.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 49% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $167 per ton. From August 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($129 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($74.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds amounted to $214 per ton, with a decrease of -19% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated resilient growth from 2018 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last four-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds decreased by -37.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 53%. The export price peaked at $341 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($700 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($180 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2018 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kyrgyzstan (+36.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds decreased by -0.2% to 532K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +23.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +88.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 54%.

In value terms, imports of vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds expanded notably to $71M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
