The average import price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds stood at $354 per ton in October 2023, declining by -40.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $736 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to October 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,326 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($288 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+27.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds amounted to $305 per ton, dropping by -4.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 99% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $729 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($382 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($204 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds imported into Lithuania surged to 24K tons, picking up by 60% compared with the previous year. In general, imports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 97%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, imports of vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds surged to $9.4M in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
