Price for Vegetable or Animal Colouring Matter in Germany (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for colouring matter of vegetable or animal origin stood at $23,856 per ton in July 2023, falling by -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 23% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $26,738 per ton in June 2023, and then shrank in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($42,280 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($10,136 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average import price for colouring matter of vegetable or animal origin amounted to $25,750 per ton, rising by 5.5% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 36% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($46,816 per ton), while the price for Austria ($8,168 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Vegetable or Animal Colouring Matter in Germany

For the fourth year in a row, Germany recorded growth in shipments abroad of colouring matter of vegetable or animal origin, which increased by 2.5% to 6.5K tons in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +46.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, vegetable or animal colouring matter exports expanded markedly to $153M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +70.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
