Price for Tomatoes; Prepared or Preserved Otherwise than by Vinegar or Acetic Acid in Ukraine (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid amounted to $1,645 per ton, picking up by 66% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid increased by +107.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($1,919 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,033 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,025 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to December 2023.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($2,117 per ton) and Poland ($2,007 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($1,457 per ton) and Moldova ($1,609 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Tomatoes; Prepared or Preserved Otherwise than by Vinegar or Acetic Acid in Ukraine

For the fourth year in a row, Ukraine recorded growth in supplies from abroad of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid, which increased by 123% to 15K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid soared to $25M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, exports recorded a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 11%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 66K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid contracted dramatically to $16M in 2022. Overall, exports showed a precipitous setback.
