The average export price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid stood at $870 per ton in December 2023, reducing by -15.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 7.6% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,072 per ton. From April 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Panama ($1,545 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($485 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid amounted to $1,765 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from December 2022 to December 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,899 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($3,133 per ton), while the price for Mexico ($1,339 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Tomatoes; Prepared or Preserved Otherwise than by Vinegar or Acetic Acid in the United States
In 2022, shipments abroad of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid decreased by -3.3% to 387K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 4.6%.
