In January 2024, the average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid amounted to $2,242 per ton, increasing by 2.5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2023 an increase of 20% against the previous month. The import price peaked in January 2024.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Portugal ($2,626 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,405 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid stood at $945 per ton in January 2024, declining by -5.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2023 an increase of 14% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,044 per ton. From November 2023 to January 2024, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In January 2024, the countries with the highest prices were Croatia ($1,050 per ton) and Montenegro ($991 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($824 per ton) and Slovenia ($851 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Tomatoes; Prepared or Preserved Otherwise than by Vinegar or Acetic Acid in Serbia
In 2022, approx. 11K tons of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid were imported into Serbia; surging by 8.2% on the previous year's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the last three years.
