The average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $4,387 per ton in 2022, dropping by -11.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 5.2%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $7,357 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In October 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Russia ($8,652 per ton) and Serbia ($7,619 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($5,824 per ton) and Senegal ($7,491 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
