In 2022, the average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $6,149 per ton, reducing by -9.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 10%. The import price peaked at $7,138 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,528 per ton), while the price for China ($4,565 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $6,930 per ton in September 2022, with a decrease of -16.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2021 when the average export price increased by 260% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $10,083 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($13,902 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($6,749 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Singapore recorded growth in shipments abroad of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped, which increased by 27% to 8.2K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.3% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped reached $47M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
