The average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $2,473 per ton in June 2023, falling by -6.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 20% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,536 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,281 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 4.3% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $9,257 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($7,446 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($3,470 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
