The average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $4,211 per ton in 2022, growing by 2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,408 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,634 per ton), while the price for India ($2,778 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $5,915 per ton, reducing by -4.1% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a modest increase from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped decreased by -29.7% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 48% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $8,412 per ton. From August 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($7,421 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($4,171 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Algeria (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Tobacco; Partly or Wholly Stemmed or Stripped in Greece
For the fourth consecutive year, Greece recorded growth in supplies from abroad of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped, which increased by 86% to 24K tons in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped soared to $101M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
