The average export price for tobacco, (not stemmed or stripped)s stood at $2,712 per ton in 2022, rising by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,901 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($4,745 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($192 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+181.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $3,800 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($4,132 per ton), while the price for India ($435 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+71.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
