In 2022, the average import price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa amounted to $706 per ton, rising by 9.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,720 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($2,147 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($487 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa stood at $2,253 per ton in June 2022, shrinking by -4% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2021 an increase of 36% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,737 per ton. From August 2021 to June 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Ghana.
From June 2021 to June 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Ghana amounted to +0.9% per month.

In 2022, purchases abroad of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa decreased by -18.9% to 8.1K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 102%.
In value terms, imports of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa shrank to $5.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year.
