The average import price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa stood at $4,619 per ton in June 2023, surging by 13% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 an increase of 22% m-o-m. The import price peaked in June 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($10,039 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($2,985 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average export price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa amounted to $2,071 per ton, dropping by -4.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 5.6% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,172 per ton in May 2023, and then contracted slightly in the following month.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the Netherlands ($2,017 per ton) and Senegal ($1,944 per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($1,703 per ton) and Mali ($1,775 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Morocco recorded growth in overseas purchases of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa, which increased by 3.4% to 5.7K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.9% over the last three years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 51%.
