The average import price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa stood at $6,800 per ton in November 2023, with an increase of 1.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $7,215 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($14,111 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($3,731 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa stood at $10,286 per ton in November 2023, picking up by 3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 5.1% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $11,279 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In November 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Singapore ($12,469 per ton) and Thailand ($12,344 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($8,703 per ton) and the United States ($9,418 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Sugar Confectionery; (Excluding Chewing Gum, Including White Chocolate), Not Containing Cocoa in Japan

In 2022, approx. 26K tons of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa were imported into Japan; jumping by 32% on the previous year. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of sugar confectionery; (excluding chewing gum, including white chocolate), not containing cocoa skyrocketed to $169M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.6% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
