In 2022, the average import price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia amounted to $4,634 per ton, with an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 174%. The import price peaked at $11,102 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($7,797 per ton), while the price for China ($3,674 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+50.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $10,390 per ton, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($19,284 per ton), while the average price for exports to North Macedonia ($2,863 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+33.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 188 tons of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia were imported into Turkey; rising by 121% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 160% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
