The average import price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $2,439 per ton in 2022, jumping by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 33%. The import price peaked at $4,378 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,649 per ton), while the price for Poland ($860 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $21,691 per ton in 2022, growing by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $26,352 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($51,857 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($16,731 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia decreased by -12.2% to 2.5K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 284% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.9K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, imports of steel, stainless; semi-finished products, other than of rectangular cross-sectia stood at $6.1M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 119%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
