Price for Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in Ukraine (FOB) - 2023
The average steel, alloy; semi-finished products export price stood at $634 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -26.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 6,762% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $44,238 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($1,472 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($631 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average steel, alloy; semi-finished products import price stood at $2,592 per ton in 2022, rising by 161% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a prominent increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($7,612 per ton), while the price for Russia ($872 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Steel, Alloy; Semi-Finished Products in Ukraine
In 2022, overseas shipments of steel, alloy; semi-finished productses decreased by -43.5% to 56K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 106K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, steel, alloy; semi-finished products exports declined significantly to $45M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $69M, and then shrank notably in the following year.
