The average import price for steel, alloy stood at $3,816 per ton in December 2023, rising by 58% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price posted a measured expansion. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $5,187 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($4,752 per ton), while the price for Italy ($2,231 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
